"Rhapsody"

To have the joy of someone's life within one's own purview
No deeper honor to the heart within this life is due
A careful treatment is required, a heart that knows its way
Assured, the heart portrayed goes boldly forward, light and gay
To sing a song of understanding, hearts and love behold
To feel the life and live it right, fulfillling life as told

And, now, as it's time, I can change up the pace
To bring it all home and to know the realm's grace
Embracing the past, while I flourish in now
More life to be cast, heart beguiled, this I vow

"Echoes"

The echoes from an empty heart reflect much more than pain
The warmth, the smile, the twinkling eye, the echoes all remain
A trumpet down the corridors of all eternity
That herald to a time when life is met triumphantly
The resonations craft the heart to that which will withstands
The whirlwind whimsies of a world, much more the heart demands
Of echoes of a future meant for grasping more than frill
To stumble on a jem, indeed, reflections overfill

"The leaf and twig"

The leaf holds softly to the twig it needs for life's support
The wind and rain and elements are part of its consort
Tentative connection held to that which gives it life
The poet warrior ponders this as wonder sings his fife
The leaf will pass and twig remain as seasons come and go
But, once again, the leaf returns, embracing season's flow
He sits, unmoving, through a time to ponder just a leaf
All of life moves past him, a peripheral motif
'Tis this necessity that drew him from his love and heart
To understand the universe in whole, not just a fraction's part
The leaf tied to the twig is as his life is tied to hers
Only in her presence, in her heart, his essence stirs

"Tremours"

What is it that we seek in what we say
What tremours through expanse of walking clay
Will drive a thought to something more than dross
So that, no longer, view life as a loss
But, hidden luster in the very core
Of everything we touch and, something more
The tremours build, the wisdom shakes
And, as the notion reawakes
The age-old patterns fall upon the floor
Like so much rubble swept on out the door
Shed all the doubt and clutter from the din
As life takes hold, supply a suiting grin
The tremours settle and we pause, once more
To find that luster hidden in the core

"Eternal Towers"

The title courtesy of Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Variations on a theme.

Far off, in distance, do I see
Eternal Towers watching me
The rubble standing in between
As blind as night, before not seen
So on, upon the threshold bare
I stumble through with little care
The dawn seeps up beyond the towers
The fear departs, the canon cowers
For, now, the light is opening
A way in which the wind will bring
The scent of troubles to be manned
The rough and shoddy to be banned
Revealing all to sight now clear
The troubles that I held so dear
They crumble, insubstantial dust
Enthralled no longer by the must
Of broken will to disappoint
The towers, now, the lights annoint
The future rolls into a point

"The reason for unreason"

in the depths of distant time a sentience emerged
Onward, upward, was the passion that their essence urged
But, chaos did ensue for they had made a slight mistake
Embarrassed and unwitting, they had thrown at heart a stake
Love and honour were the ones that fell upon the ground
And, witness to the sad affair, all reason was unsound
A pall occurred when mention of the act was ever made
So silence and unreason took the stage and farce was played
To see the truth and shout it, only echoes do return
Until the truth is evident, for all, the heart will burn
Rage and fury settle in, for price that we have paid
A challenge made, a gauntlet thrown, that reason will cascade
I cannot seem to raise the tide, a glamour does reside
Will is not enough, it seems, to raise the ocean wide
But, will and effort integrate, an iron without match
A hammer built for all mankind to break unreason's latch
Forged in our humanity, while flames were flying high
A breath of life for all of us, a message in a sigh
Life and living's hard enough without unreason's weight
Take the chance of life and heart and, then, you will relate
There is an answer to the drum that's heard on summit's peak
A celebration of this life, undoes the havoc's wreak
